OSX 10.9 Mavericks – How to Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive


Apple no longer supply a bootable USB Flash Drive for their newest OSX Mavericks operating system, just as they did with Mountain Lion.
Using this tutorial you will be able to create your own bootable USB Flash Drive using Apple’s newest operating system, Mavericks!

Command used in this video:
sudo /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Untitled –applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app –nointeraction

  14. I accidentally plugged in my backup drive – which got turned into a bootable drive, erasing my backup of all my stuff. Not recommended. To the data recovery experts I go. Be careful.

I've downloaded Mavericks via torrent and didnt get a single file as the App Store used to provide, but an "OS X Base System" with multiple files (including the "Install OS X Mavericks.app" file), is there any way to make it a single file? Because when I entered the command to make the bootable USB I got an error

  28. Mavericks or any older os, go to your app store and sign in. Look at your past purchases and the installer should be there.

  35. Thank you for this, this works! The CMD line initially didn't find the path "Untitled," however when I changed the name to all caps ("UNTITLED") that seemed to fix the little problem. Odd. Thanks again for this tutorial!

    sudo: unable to stat /etc/sudoers: Permission denied
    sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting

    i get this and checked the code but to no avail, any suggestions?

  41. i had question they problem i'm having is after i put in the terminal command and after it erased at started copying installer over, it never says "complete" i am trying it another time with another mac after the unsuccessful hour wait first try.

  42. Did everything correct but when i hold the option button it brings up the three things to click on like yours. My yellow one says FYL Boot or something. Doesn't say Install OS X Mavericks
